Frame this

26 Apr

I love the open frame look I have been seeing for years in various magazines. I finally made room on my crafty “to do” list and with the help of my amazing grandparents and their room full of yet be used antiques (grandparents always have old stuff that we youngsters can n
Call antiques).
My frames started out dull, wood colored and blah. I spray painted them with flat white and then “junked ’em up) with watered down brown paint, crackle texture paint and a little red, teal and gold.
Here is my final product…I will be adding photos of each child on the letter hangers.

Easy and fun wall art.

15 Apr

I needed some art for my sons nursery. When my husband and I bought our home 2 years ago I found this huge canvas in the attic. I knew one day it would turn into a treasure. I had my husband drag it down when I found out we would be turning our guest room into a boys nursery.

The canvas had an awful painting of a horse head. I didn’t think to take pictures, shame on me.
I painted the canvas, antiqued it up a bit:

I ordered a digital graphics cd of vintage circus prints off of eBay and printed some of my favorite prints onto transfer paper:

I then modge-podged the heck out of the whole thing and placed my pictures I ironed onto canvas type fabric I had laying around the house. I tea stained the fabric as well to give it that old look. And ta-daaaa! Art! I get so many wows and yay’s when people come over and “tour” our home.

Add a touch of Spring…

13 Apr

>Spring time can do some funny things to people, it makes me go into a full speed ahead cleaning and redecorating frenzy. All of this energy must be a direct result of the cabin fever I get in the winter. None, the less. I go above and beyond your “normal” spring clean. My interior design bone craves paint and color.
So here you go, a spring has sprung in bold, crisp, clean, refreshing colors.
Our living room was a drab, “buy this house, neutral” I had to clean it up, give it some life. I went with rainwater customized to the point of no return by Sherwin Williams.

Now, onward to the place where all the cooking goes down…
The Kitchen. When we bought the house it was already a yellow color, a little brighter than I would choose so I took it up a notch to this smoother, a tad lighter, creamier yellow, BUT I didn’t want to be overwhelmed with sunshine so I added a little character, Purple…eggplant-ish. The purple really adds that extra oomph I needed. It helps the things on the wall to stand out annnnd it looks fab with yellow and red!

I needed to add color to my bed as well so, I purposes some pillows with new, brighter fabrics.
